3D Printing: Art of Future Manufacturing

机械结构强度与振动国家重点实验室邀请,惠普公司Lihua Zhao博士来我院做学术报告。
报告题目:3D Printing: Art of Future Manufacturing
报告人:Lihua Zhao
时间:6月17号(周五)上午10:00
地点:学院第二会议室
报告摘要
Want to design and manufacture something that couldn’t be made ever before? 3D printing will make it possible! In additive manufacturing technology—commonly called “3D printing”—objects are built from selective addition of material rather than by molding or traditional methods of subtractive machining, where material is removed by cutting and grinding. 3D printing offers the ability to produce the functional and aesthetic components of machines, highly-customized and high value consumer and industrial products that may be one-of-a-kind and have much more complex 3D internal structures. HP’s vision for 3D printing is the revolution of part manufacturing (how parts are made) and the part distribution supply chain (where and when parts are made). Based on HP’s core competencies in precision, low-cost mechanics, precision metering and placement of liquid agents, high-volume manufacturing, and material science, HP is poised to introduce a disruptive 3D printing technology, HP’s Multi Jet FusionTM technology. A key feature of HP Multi Jet FusionTM technology is the potential to modify material properties to produce controlled variability in mechanical and physical characteristics within a part. This can enable a host of new possibilities and real freedom in the design and performance of parts/devices that have never been made before and bridge the gap between Design, Art and Engineering, which will help realize the transformation from digital to physical as part of blended reality.

报告人简介
Dr. Lihua Zhao is Senior Research Manager and Scientist at HP Labs, leading an elite research team to advance HP’s 3D printing technology for future industry revolution. Dr. Zhao joined HP in January 2009, and spent 4 years leading research efforts on materials design and development for flexible electronics, as well as device fabrication for OLED flexible displays using roll-to-roll processed TFT backplane. Prior to joining HP, Dr. Zhao was an Assistant Research Scientist at University of California, Berkeley. In this role, she led research to develop new materials for flexible displays in a collaborative effort with tech industry in which she was invited to work with HP Labs as a visiting scientist. She received her Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry and Materials Science from University of California, Irvine in 2006 and her B.S. and M.S. degree in Chemistry in China. Dr. Zhao has published more than 20 peer-reviewed papers, crafted numerous conference papers, authored and co-authored over 80 patent applications and invention disclosures in the area of chemical formulation, 3D printing, and flexible electronics. Dr. Zhao is also keen on encouraging, mentoring and developing young scientists and engineers, especially women. She is a member of the American Chemistry Society, Material Research Society, and Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers.
