In recent years, “High performance for functional materials, Multi-functional for structure materials” has become the development trend of new materials research. The service condition of the national defense military devices is harsh, the materials used need a variety of properties. Multi-disciplines, technology integration and rapid response have become the major trend of the development of military products. Focus on multi-disciplines development and defense demand, MOE key laboratory for multifunctional materials and structures was set up with the purpose of integrating resources, focusing on the advantages, and enhancing the national defense science and technology level, and training science and technology talents. This laboratory is jointly built by the school of aerospace, the school of electronic and information engineering, the school of materials science and engineering, and the school of energy and power engineering. The research fields of our laboratory stretch across mechanics, material, heat transfer, solid-state electronics disciplines.
The general research direction and characteristic of LMMS are material design, preparation and application with the main feature of multi-function. We focus on the study of the mechanical, electrical and heat transfer characteristics of advanced material, and research the relationships between these characteristics and material composition, fabrication process and macro configuration; on this basis, we research multi-function material design principle, method and technical way under the condition of military service, and then develop new military defense materials and equipment.
According to the requirement of equipment and the special service environment, the key research work of LMMS is to extract key performance of material characterization, to study the special fabrication process, micro and macro configuration, and to grasp the material composition / structure / property relationship among them, and then to focus on material research and technology development based on multi-function design and optimization. Laboratory construction is mainly carried out in the following three main research directions: (1) multifunctional lightweight porous materials and structures; (2) electronic information functional materials and devices; (3) high temperature structural materials and their composite technology.
Director of the laboratory is Professor Lu Tian Jian of the school of aerospace, deputy directors are Professor Xu Zhuo of the school of electronic and information engineering and Professor Jin Feng of t the school of aerospace. There are 30 people as the researchers. LMMS was approved the establishment of the project by the Ministry of Education in May 12, 2008, and the construction project of LMMs was accepted by the Ministry of education in January 10, 2015. The laboratory established the academic committee, academic committee meeting held every year. 2009-2012, the laboratory had undertaken 59 national defense projects, the national defense research funding was nearly 100 million yuan. 33 national invention patents were authorized, 146 SCI papers were published, and we won two national awards, four provincial and ministerial level awards.
